If you look back on some of your favorite Christmas’ past I’m sure there were moments that weren’t exactly perfect. We have a running joke in our family about which gifts we will find hidden months after the Holiday is over. And then there was the year that the fresh cut tree didn’t exactly sit straight in the stand so it was tied to a hook on the ceiling so it wouldn’t lean over! Oh and let’s not forget the year we had a new puppy that used our artificial tree as his own very convenient potty – needless to say we had to throw that one away.
Stuff happens – and it can be quite chaotic in the moment but looking back on those times gives us memories to laugh about for years to come! So don’t fret about the chaos of the season, just roll with it, and have a glass of Chardonnay. Maybe kick your feet up and place them on top of that toppled over Christmas tree. Those misplaced gifts will make great birthday presents in a few months, keep some frozen dinners on hand in case you burn your turkey, and who needs lights and ornaments anyway? If a few get broken, that’s just a few less that you have to put up at the end of the season!
Sanity Saving Holiday Tips
So what are my top tips for surviving the Holidays with my sanity still intact?
Prepare
Plan ahead and shop early. I like to prep my home with a simple two week cleaning checklist so that I am not trying to get everything ready at once. I also like to get as much as my shopping done ahead of time, yes I’m the one thinking about Christmas in October. When everything is prepared ahead of time I can enjoy the season with my family and be prepared for whatever chaos gets thrown my way.
Simplify
Keep it simple. You can have a wonderful Christmas with simple gifts and decorations. When entertaining opt for a potluck or appetizers instead of a sit down dinner. And if you love to bake – go for it, just make sure those recipes aren’t too complicated.
Relax
Top of my list is making sure to schedule in some time to sit by the fire and enjoy a glass of Gallo Family Vineyard Chardonnay. Whether with friends or your spouse – pour your favorite glass from Gallo Family Vineyard Wines, turn on those lights and music, and just enjoy the sights, sounds, and beauty of the season.
And just for fun, so that we can all laugh and look back on some of our Christmas Chaos’ past I rewrote the lyrics to the 12 days of Christmas – now try and read through this without singing, bet ya you can’t!
