There is nothing that I love more than a good them for a birthday party. Well, any party for that matter. And I’m not talking buying the character plates at the party store. I’m talking a ‘Theme’… one where the colors, the food, the activities, etc. all revolve around the same central idea. Needless to say, I was exstatic when my son’s 2nd birthday fell on the day before Easter-we were gong to plan an Easter Birthday Party! Not only was it a Saturday (I love it when the birthdays fall on a weekend too) but Easter? Awesome! A built in theme! Since he was only two I knew I could get away with it…something tells me when he’s 10 he won’t be so inclined to have and Easter Egg/Bunny birthday party
I’m also a huge fan of having party favors…that go with the theme. I do not care for your typical plastic bag with some candy and pencil thrown in so I’m always trying to come up with an alternate idea for the kids to take something home with them. For an Easter birthday party there is only one thing I could think of…
I started planning a month in advance ordering trinkets and Easter themed candies from Oriental Trading Company because you guessed it…we were going to do an Easter Egg Hunt! And I didn’t want it to be a lame egg hunt like they hold at the neighborhood community centers and the little ones are lucky to end up with one egg and not get trampled over by the older-greedier crowd…I wanted it to be awesome! Where every child at the party had a whole bucket of Easter Eggs to open and take home. So I bought, and I bought, and I bought some more and we ended up with close to 300 filled eggs for a total of 12 children at the party. Ya, I know, I went a little over board, I usually do…my husband just shakes his head at me and lets me do it though so we’re all good! 🙂
To keep the kiddies occupied while we hid the eggs, I had them do a craft. We used cardboard ‘Easter Eggs’ and they decorated them with foam stickers and glitter…so thankful to the other parents for helping them with that and helping me to hide like a gazillion eggs.
Next, the food….I always plan on a healthy spread for the party goers, I don’t like feeding my kids crap so why would I feed all the other kids crap? Since we were having the party outdoors at a park I wanted it to be picnic type food. I Always have a veggie platter and fruit and since the P’s birthdays are in April they are usually very excited to have watermelon at their parties. It’s become kind of a tradition since it is the first time of the year that it is in season. I asked the P’s what else they’d like to have and the answer was sandwiches. Perfect! I made peanut butter & jelly ones and cream cheese with colored cream cheese to match the theme of the party. I also cut the sandwiches using chicky and egg shaped cookie cutters…they turned out really cute. For the adults I grabbed Turkey footlongs and cut them into party sized sandwiches. For sides we had and Asian cabbage salad and fruit salsa with cinnamon and sugar chips. And of course…..CAKE!
It was a great day full of friends and lots of Sunshine! Just PERFECT for an Easter Birthday Bash! And… I got the ULTIMATE compliment: A 4 year told me that it was the “BEST BIRTHDAY PART EVER!”
Happy Birthday Little Man! I Love You!
