We have an Earth Day baby so you know we were going to do a theme to that effect at least once. Well for Wundergirl’s 4th Birthday that’s exactly what we did, but of course kept it super girly just for her.
We decided that a Garden themed party would be perfect, and to make it totally Princess worthy we kept it very pink and added Butterflies! Well, one butterfly anyway…I bought these cute butterfly wings and supplied her with a matching spring tutu from Too Tutu Cute.
For the party, we really wanted to be as Earth friendly as possible so I created these really cute invitations using brown paper grocery bags. I used a pair of pinking sheers to jazz up to look, and added a paper flower decoration to the front with some left over card stock I had in the craft closet.
For food we did a selection of healthy appetizers including fresh fruit and vegetable trays, hummus with baguette and organic wheat crackers and I made fresh guacamole and salsa with chips for the grown ups. To make the clean up easy, I did still use paper plates but purchased disposable cups made from recycled materials.
I opted for a cupcake-cake instead of a traditional birthday cake. Really easy to serve and eat! The flowers went with the Garden party theme, (I used pink to frost them, added a small yellow center, and used green icing on the cake board to look like stems) and the pink makes them extra girly for my princess! It was just what she wanted!
For party activities we did face painting and I purchased inexpensive plastic pots, seeds, and soil and the kids each got to plant their own flowers. We bought Marigolds to plant as I was informed by the nice lady at the home and garden center that they are perfect for preschoolers since they sprout within a few days! Each child got to take home his/her flower pot instead of a loot bag.
I love that a party with this theme could really work for any age group. We tailored it to fit our very girly 4 year old but in the future it would be so much fun to do again with a whole new spin on it!
