Winter is here! We may not live in an area that will see any snow but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun with snowman crafts. Whether you’re having a snow day and are stuck inside or you don’t have any snow to build a snowman with, you can always make a great snowman craft instead, like this Craft Stick Snowman.
This simple craft can be made to use as a decoration, you could add it to a story telling as a puppet, or create an ornament. It is a great snowman craft to add to your winter themed lessons and activities.
Craft Stick Snowman
Materials Needed:
- Craft Sticks
- White Paint
- Foam Paint Brush
- Buttons
- Felt
- Ribbon
- Craft Glue
This is a two part project. You will need two days to complete as there must be time for the paint to dry. I recommend painting the sticks ahead of time and letting the children decorate them.
First you will need to paint your craft sticks white and allow to dry. Once they have dried you can begin to decorate.
For decorating your snowman you will need felt, buttons, and ribbon. I pre-cut various strips of ribbon to use as a scarf. Any ribbon will do an scrap are just fine, you only need a piece that is 2-3″ long. The snowman hats are made from felt, and those I pre-cut as well. Any variety of buttons work as well, and the more to choose from, the better! I love to see how each child creates a different snowman from the materials available.
To add the hats, use a dot of glue at the top of the stick and press the felt down firmly. For the ribbon scarves, glue the center of the ribbon to the back of the craft stick and then wrap the ribbon around to the front. Glue the bottom layer first, followed by the top layer. Finally, add the buttons using a dot of glue on the back of each. Allow to dry completely.
If you would like to make this a snowman ornament, simply use your glue to add a piece of ribbon, string, or a pipe cleaner to the back of the craft stick, near the top.
