It’s that time of year, when colds and coughs are everywhere you turn. Little stuffy noses that needed clearing in order to get relief. I prefer not to use medication unless absolutely necessary so we use essential oils whenever possible. There are some great Essential Oils to help relieve congestion and it is these that we have used to help us create our DIY bath bombs.
The next time you’re feeling under the whether and are having trouble with congestion, take a nice hot bath and pop in one of these DIY Bath Bombs. In this batch of bath bombs we have used a combination of Eucalyptus and Peppermint essential oils to help relieve congestion. If you would like a relaxing or energizing bath instead, feel free to use any essential oils that you would like.
I made these with my children and husband in mind as they’ve been suffering from the sniffles these past few weeks.

Materials Needed (Makes 8 Bath Bombs):
- 1/2 cup of baking soda
- 1/4 cup corn starch
- 1/4 cup citric acid
- 1 tsp. olive oil
- 40 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
- 20 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- spray bottle with water
- Silicon Baking Mold (I used a mini-muffin tin that was aluminum-it would have been easier to take them out if it had been silicon)
Directions:
In a mixing bowl combine baking soda, corn starch, and citric acid. Mix thoroughly.
Add in your olive oil and essential oils and mix well. I used my hands to do all of the mixing so make sure all of the oils were broken up.
With your spray bottle, squirt the mixture just two or thee sprays at a time and work into the dough. Continue to spray the dough a couple sprays at a time until the dough begins to pack together and you can form it into your hands. Make sure not to spray too much water at once so that the mixture does not begin to fizz.
Pack the mixture tightly into your mold. Make sure that it is packed tightly so that it forms a solid when dried.
Let the mixture dry in the mold until COMPLETELY dry. I recommend several hours (I left ours to dry for about 4 hours-you could easily leave them overnight).
Once the bath bombs have completely dried you can remove them from the mold and store in an airtight container.
Use one bath bomb in the bath to help relieve congestion. They can also be placed on the shower floor for the same effect.
