I love the look of natural, raw materials, distressed and worn furniture, and not so perfect touches to the home. For our Spring Table Decor I took all of those things and came up with this~
This setting was all inspired by a trip to Michael’s with Wundergirl. We were looking for some Spring inspiration and boy did we find it when they were doing a craft demo on how to stencil these lovely Chargers.
We perused the floral section and found some great stems at 50% off and a tall glass vase for $2.99. I chose two Pink Hydrangea blossoms and a sprig of these white flowers. And what better to fill the vase with than wine corks?! I have saved every wine cork from every bottle of wine for many, many years JUST to have on hand at times like these. I love the look and texture of cork and it fit in perfectly with this table setting.
The kids added their own special touches to the table with these Easter Bunny and Chick figurines 🙂
To finish off the look I bought some inexpensive burlap fabric (2 yards) and some fabric that looks like raw cotton (1.5 yards) and created place mats and cloth napkins for the place settings.
To make the burlap place mats simply cut a rough (everything here can be ‘rough’ that’s the beauty of working with imperfect materials) 13 X 21″ rectangle. Stitch straight down the short sides leaving raw edges exposed to create the fringed look. Fold fabric over along top and bottom and stitch to hem.
The napkins are an 18 X 18″ square hemmed on all sides. That’s it! It took about an hour to cut and sew enough for 6 place settings.
I’m still a little torn on whether or not I should stencil the napkins to match the chargers. Thoughts?
