Looking for a Christian or Bible based elf on the shelf alternative? We’ve found a few!
I’ll be the first to admit, we are Elf on the Shelf owners. When I first bought our Elf, though, it was long before Pinterest was exposing all of the crazy, mischievous antics that an Elf can get into – this has many parents searching for an Elf on the Shelf alternative.
Counting down to Christmas with Advent activities is a great way to prepare for Christmas Day. The kids look forward to Christmas all month long and enjoy the daily surprise.
My mom bought us an Elf on the Shelf 10 years ago. Our Elf is so old that he wasn’t available in stores yet when he was purchased, he was ordered through SkyMall Magazine!
Since our Elf entered our home long before the social media scene, we read the book, chose a name for him, and for the past 10 years we’ve been hiding him in a new spot around the house each night during Advent.
It’s simple, and doesn’t include any elf on the shelf mischief! To be honest, I’m not really a fan of the Elf mischief and it really seems contradictory to both the story and the season.
Lately, though, Elf on the Shelf Alternatives have been popping up and I LOVE the ideas they represent!
The season of Advent is one of preparation and the entire Christmas season is about sacrifice and giving – so finding a bible based, Christian themed, Elf on the Shelf alternative seems like the perfect way to teach our young children the true spirit and meaning of Christmas!
These Elf on the Shelf alternatives are terrific Advent activities to add into your home and start a new tradition focusing on the birth of Christ and the reason for the season!
Elf on the Shelf Alternative
As I went looking for new ideas and how we might incorporate more of our Christian faith into the Seasons of Advent and Christmas I found several fantastic elf on the shelf alternatives!
The Shepherd on the Search includes interactive book, plush shepherd doll and keepsake nativity box.
“During the Advent season, begin reading the story of your shepherd’s timeless journey in a beautifully illustrated interactive children’s book, and let the fun begin every day as you hide your shepherd and your children find him in a new place along the search! The shepherd’s journey begins anew every Christmas season and ends on Christmas day as your shepherd finds his way to the manger.”
The Star from Afar gift set includes a soft cover book, 15 pieces wooden nativity set, stable animals, and scripture cards.
The Star from afar is a hide and seek game, just like the Elf on the Shelf, throughout Advent and Christmas. To play, Set up your nativity. Hide the Star every night. Once your children find the Star move all Three Wise Men to its location.
I really like this elf on the shelf alternative because you can use it all through Advent and Christmas time – eventually leading the 3 wise men to the baby Jesus on Epiphany!
I could only find the book available separately for this wonderful advent activity but you can buy the angel doll here.
“Angel on Assignment takes readers through the first Christmas story and presents the ways guardian angels watch over boys and girls today. With beautiful illustrations and rhyming verse, Angel on Assignment offers a Christian alternative to the elf encouraging children to act as angels in disguise for friends who might need help.”
The Shepherds treasure comes with a doll, book, baby Jesus and Advent cards.
“it’s a tale of the journey one small shepherd took to find the TRUE meaning of Christmas. As your shepherd embarks on his Quest, your little ones will learn about God’s great love for us when he sent his son Jesus into this world to save us! By advent cards, the shepherd is led; each day a new verse from God’s word to be read. It’s also a clue of his journey ahead and a message of joy and good news to be spread!”
