I love having a clean home but hate using harmful chemicals. Most of the cleaning products on the market are full of toxic chemicals and the ones that are safe and environmentally friendly are very expensive.
I recently did an overhaul of all of my cleaning products, they are now all safe to use around the children and pets and didn’t cost me a fortune. The secret? I used my young living essential oils to create amazing cleaning products that are chemical free!
In this post I am going to share all of my cleaning hacks with you so you can create a safe clean home for your family too!
So you might be asking yourself, if she isn’t using chemicals to clean, and isn’t spending a small fortune on special products, what is she using?! Well, that my friends is what I’m going to show you. I have replaced all of my cleaning products with ones that I have made myself (don’t worry, it’s easy to do!) with the help of some common household ingredients and Essential Oils!
Before we go any further, I want to show you my entire cleaning supply arsenal now that I have switched.
Not shown in this picture is my laundry detergent.
Chemical Free Cleaning
Ok, so now on to the recipes and tips to make these cleaning supplies yourself. And yes, it is super easy to do – you can make them all in about 15 minutes.
First, you will need to gather a few supplies:
- Glass Spray Bottles (the ones pictured above are plastic but glass is best for essential oils)
- Glass Containers
- Squeeze Bottles
- Essential Oils (each recipe is different, see below)
- Distilled Water
- Alcohol (you can use Vodka, Rubbing Alcohol, or Witch Hazel – I use Vodka because it lacks a smell)
- Washing Soda
- White Distilled Vinegar
- Microfiber Cloths
Now that you have gathered your supplies, lets get started!
ALL PURPOSE THIEVES CLEANER
Great for cleaning hard surfaces like , counter tops and kitchen sinks
To be used on Glass Surfaces but also works fantastic on walls, counter tops, and most hard surfaces!
This is a variation of an all purpose cleaner because you really can use it on other surfaces, not just glass. It took my kids dirty hand prints off of our white walls, expertly!
INGREDIENTS:
- 2 Cups White Vinegar
- 1 Cup Distilled Water
- 20 drops purification essential oil (young living blend)
Place these all in a spray bottle and clean to your hearts content!
HOW TO CLEAN THE DISHWASHER
A few weeks ago I noticed a nasty white film build up all over my dishwasher. I was really effecting the cleanliness of my dishes and even starting to leave the same white film behind on my glassware. So, I cleaned it out….easily and with NO chemicals!
HERE’S HOW: See post for instructions
The coffee pot is another appliance that is often neglected in my kitchen, but once it’s cleaned my morning coffee tastes so much better! Try this quick tutorial to clean yours.
HOW TO CLEAN A COFFEE POT
The bathrooms are easily one of the grossest rooms in the house, especially if you have children. I have always battled with getting them clean enough and not using harmful chemicals. These cleaning recipes and tips are great for the bathroom and will get it sparkling and dirt and smell free quickly and easily.
BATHROOM CLEANING TIPS
- Purification Glass/All Purpose Cleaner for mirrors, counter tops, and around the toilet (you can also use Thieves cleaner)
- Magic Cleaning Solution in the bathtub and sinks
- Toilet Bowl Cleaner (see video below)
- Use a microfiber cleaning cloth instead of a sponge, you can toss the cloth into the wash
- Use a paper towel on the mirror and then reuse to wipe down toilet (toilets are gross and I do not want the germs going anywhere but into the trashcan)
Moving on to the rest of the home there are just a few tips and recipes to share here. I use a homemade essential oils furniture polish, the purification cleaner, and my lavender linen spray to spruce things up in the living room and bedrooms.
Purification Cleaner on windows, glass surfaces and lightly on walls to remove dirty handprints
Furniture polish on all wood furniture
Linen spray on curtains, fabric sofas, and bed sheets.
FURNITURE POLISH RECIPE
- 1/2 cup of olive oil
- 2 Tbsp. distilled vinegar
- 5 drops orange, lemon, or citrus fresh essential oil
Add ingredients to a spray bottle and shake vigorously. Spray onto wood surface and buff with a microfiber cloth. You can double this recipe if you have a larger bottle but you do not need to use much to get the job done.
LAVENDER LINEN SPRAY
No, believe it or not, I also use essential oils in my laundry! I make my homemade laundry detergent scented with a blend of oils as well as using them for stain and smell removal. See the video tutorial below for more information.
