Education is very important to our family. We believe that it is the foundation for their future. For our children, there is a series of learning events. The most obvious is Elementary school, but before that we like them to be prepared. Both of my older children have attended high quality early childhood education centers as part of their preparation for school aged learning and little Pixi cannot wait for her turn!
We believe that early childhood education is the foundation for life long learning. Sending my children to a high quality early childhood education and childcare at a young age is essential in growing their personalities, social skills, and instilling great learning habits that will last a lifetime.
Even before they get to the chalkboard we, as parents, are our children’s first teachers. From infancy through the toddler years the days are filled with so many educational opportunities. Learning moments can happen anywhere for a young child, and it is important to take advantage of that. From pointing out colors while on a walk, or recognizing the letters on a store sign while running errands. These are learning moments. Young children soak up the information and it is wonderful to be a part of their education.
For my family so many of these learning moments happen in the kitchen. The kitchen is the place that the family gathers, from sun up to sun down. Aside from gathering around the table, we love to work together in the kitchen and our favorite is baking.
These moments are wonderful. They are learning so much and they have no idea. We focus on teamwork and following directions in the beginning of the process. Each one of them is given a task and must complete it in order, otherwise they know the end result will not turn out the way they would like. It is a process.
When my oldest child started reading, her biggest job became reading the recipes. This gives her the opportunity to practice her reading skills while delegating the tasks to the younger children and organizing the ingredients.
My son is typically in charge of mixing and stirring. He is a very active boy so this gives him the time to calm down and focus on one task, while working on his coordination.
Through the process they are learning about measurements, addition of ingredients, and how to work together as a team through a process to have a positive end result.
Even the littlest ones can learn through helping in the kitchen. Two year old pixi has her own flour tub that we pull out anytime that we are baking up some goodies. She loves to sift and pour and mix and stir, it is a fabulous sensory activity! As babies, my children would sit in their high chairs with a few toys while I would work in the kitchen. They would enjoy conversation while watching me work.
With education being such and important and integral part of my children’s lives, it is crucial that they receive high quality early childhood education and childcare. KinderCare has the same philosophy. The KinderCare education centers focus on capturing these moments everyday and making each moment a teachable one. They incorporate a number of teaching strategies to make sure they are teaching each child in the most effective way possible.
As a parent I know the first step in choosing high quality early childhood education and childcare is visiting the facility. It is important to me to see first hand what the environment is like.
