I have so many awesome memories of summer time as a kid. When I was growing up, summer fun for kids didn’t mean lavish vacations or week long expensive summer camps – summer fun meant playing in the yard with all the kids from the neighborhood.
Summer fun meant spraying each-other with the hose, running through sprinklers and splashing through inflatable pools.
Summer fun when I was growing up meant water slides sprawled out on the lawn and all of our favorite snacks!
Summer of our Childhood
I have to admit, as appealing as it sounds to go on a super vacation or send my kids off to summer camp – I much prefer to give them the summer of my childhood.
I want my kids to have those same care-free memories of cooling off in the water sprays right there in the backyard.
Of course it won’t be exactly the same as when we were kids, but close enough – after all, those inflatable pools and water slides have come a long way over the last 20+ years!!
Must have products for backyard summer fun with kids
This year there will be no planning of events, no dropping off to camps. This year I’ll be giving my own children the kind of care-free summer of my childhood.
I have stocked up on my favorite products for summer so that my own kids can enjoy their free time this summer right here in their own backyard!
Inflatable Pools for Kids
A backyard summer party (even if it is just your own children and a few neighbors) isn’t complete without an inflatable pool. When the weather heats up, you’ve got to cool off and playing in the water is so much better than hanging out indoors all day!
We picked up this amazing Pirate Ship Inflatable Pool with attached sprinkler – for even more water play fun – at Sam’s Club!
The kids have spent hours cooling off and thinking up elaborate pirate games to play – in fact, the ship spurred so much imagination that our backyard is now the “ocean”!
With children ages 2 to 12 in my home the inflatable pirate ship pool is great fun for everyone! They’ve all taken turns spraying each other with the “canon” and pirating the ship.
Sam’s Club also has other fun toys like the WOW Super Slide, Suntan Rocker, or Giant Pool float!
Easy Summer Snacks for Kids
With the kids spending so much time outdoors, and with so many neighbors making their way into our yard for all of the fun, I make sure to have tons of snacks on hand.
After making a trip to our local Sam’s Club – we are stocked for the summer with all the snacks we could ever need! We choose our favorites like Kellogg’s Fruity Snack, Pringles Snack Stacks Variety Pack, and Cheez-It Original.
You can also find more great snacks like Strawberry Pop Tarts, Club Crackers and Famous Amos Cookies.
To make it easy – and to keep my floors from becoming a pool themselves – I use a large bucket to keep snacks outside and easily accessible whenever anyone needs something.
Add a pitcher of water and the kids have everything they need for hours of backyard summer fun! If you need me, you know where to find me – living it up in my own backyard!
And if your backyard furniture needs an update check out this amazing collection of Member’s Mark outdoor furniture
