I’ve been wanting to make this banner with the kids for a while and Wunderdad’s return from Afghanistan was the perfect opportunity! We used this super cute ‘hand’ made flag for our Welcome Home Banner.
What you need:
- Twin Sized White Sheet
- Red, Blue, and Yellow Acrylic Paint (I used acrylic because I wanted it to be permanent and I had some on hand, fabric paint would also work)
- Paper plates
- Sponge Brushes
To Make the Flag~
Lay the sheet out on the floor. We did this in my kitchen on the tile. You will want to do this on a washable surface or a lay a tarp down under the sheet because the paint WILL soak through the sheet.
Put a decent amount of paint onto a paper plate and didp the child’s hands in it. I recommend only using one hand so that you don’t have paint everywhere. Since I have three kids I portioned off the flag so that Wunderbaby did the ‘stars’, Wunderboy did the top half of the stripes and Wundergirl did the bottom half of the stripes. Having Wunderbaby help was a bit tricky and I ended up holding her over the sheet and stamping her hand down.
Let the paint dry and then you can write a message if you choose. We wrote “Welcome Home Daddy” in Yellow and hung the banner up on the garage.
