Getting the kids up and moving and building their gross motor skills is so important. One of our favorite ways to do that is with a kid friendly obstacle course.
When given the challenge, children will use their imagination to create a course though the backyard with little more than a few sticks or a bucket.
Indoor obstacle courses are just as fun and are a perfect boredom buster when the weather isn’t cooperating to go outside. A few pillows and household items and they can maneuver their way through, crawling and hopping along.
Another fun and easy way to create an obstacle course is to create cards with gross motor activities on them. Do the activity that is on each card to get to the next.
Since those sneaky leprechauns can be quite mischievous at times, I thought a Leprechaun obstacle course might be the perfect way to get the kids moving around during the month of March.
Set-up for this Leprechaun obstacle course activity is so easy. All you need to do is print the cards and set them out around the yard, on the field at school, or even in the living room if you can’t go outdoors.
If you are planning on using these multiple times I would definitely recommend laminating them, especially if you plan to use them outdoors.
One you have printed your cards, cut them out (and laminate them if you would like) and place them in your obstacle course. You can use the cards alone with the gross motor activities or you can add physical obstacles like a rope to jump over or tunnel to crawl through between cards.
Have the children line up at card number one and take turns going through the course. This can also be done in pairs, with the children working together to get through the course.
