Kids love to get messy. With my own children the messier the project, the more fun they will have. So what is a mom to do when you want them to enjoy this messy fun part of growing up but don’t want their clothes covered in paint, glue, play dough, and markers? Cover them up! But with what you ask, child size aprons often leave areas for the mess to get through. We use T-shirts and Trash bags! Yes, oversized T-shirts, usually the kind you may pick up for FREE from some sort of promotion (the shirt pictured were handed out at a baseball game we attended last summer) are perfect. An adult large T-shirt will fully cover a small child’s clothes leaving them to create and mom not to worry.
So what is this talk about trash bags? Kitchen sized trash bags make the perfect cover up for messy projects. I use these when I know we are going to have a large group crafting together. Simply cut two arm holes and a neck hole and put the trash bag on like a T-shirt over the child’s clothing. When they are finished with the project, remove and throw away! Now you know how I am able to let my children participate in fun messy crafts and stay sane at the same time.
