Ok, I have a confession – I love buttercream frosting. It is perfect to top cakes and cookies and you can vary your recipe for fun and unique flavors. Oh who am I kidding, I’ll eat it off a spoon or right out of the bowl! I have a good friend that also loves buttercream frosting and for years she’s been asking me to write down my recipe. Well, I’m finally writing it down for her and to share with all of you! The recipe is really simple and makes enough to frost an 8-9″ round cake.
I always start with this basic buttercream for all of my cakes and add ingredients depending on what flavor I’m going for. You can add colorings, flavorings, fruits preserves, creamed cheeses, and more to make your buttercream frosting unique or you can simply make the original. Even Essential Oils can be added – Lemon Buttercream is Ah-Maaazing! I love to add extracts like maple or almond for a slight twist!
