Need more time in the day? You’ll love this busy mom tip – 7 ways to be productive while you’re stuck in the school car line
Spend a lot of time in the school car line waiting to pick up your kids? Ya, me too. And as a busy mom, my time is valuable!
To get a good spot in the line and be one of the first to pick up your kids you have to be at least 20 minutes early, depending on how big the school is you might be in your car waiting for much longer.
Our school is small and the car line moves rather quickly so I usually leave myself about 20 minutes… unless the the toddler is napping, then I might drive over there earlier just to let her sleep in the car.
Either way, I’m spending at least 20 minutes a day….100 minutes a week….400 minutes a month…just sitting there in my car. That averages out to around 6.5 waisted hours a month!! I don’t even want to do the math for the entire year!
As someone that values her time and likes to work smarter, not harder, I’ve started making my car line waits a bit more productive.
There are so many productive things you can do while you sit in your car and wait for the kids!
Productive things to do while you wait in the school car line
Clean out the Car
At least once a week, I use the time to tidy up the car. I grab a plastic grocery bag on my way out of the house and collect all of the trash from around the car and tie it off in the trash bag. I’ll grab the baby wipes too and wipe down any dirty foot and finger prints that I might find on the doors or the back of the seats.
Make a List
20 minutes is the perfect amount of time to come up with that to-do list or the grocery shopping shopping list. I also keep a paper planner in my car and can use that time to do my weekly or monthly meal plan.
Answer Emails
Thanks to smart phone and hot spots you can catch up on your emails for the week!
Schedule Appointments
If I don’t have any emails to answer I might use the time to schedule appointments – doctors visits, dentist, or work engagement.
Read
I keep whatever book I’m working on in my car, or bag. I can usually get through a chapter while I wait for the kids to come out from school.
Take a Nap
What can I say? Sometimes you’ve just got to take a nap! Just don’t forget to set your alarm or you’ll be woken by everyone behind you honking.
Pray
Grab that Rosary and take a minute to reset before the kids come home – I don’t know about you but my kids are off the wall by the time school lets out and I need all the patience and help I can get! Taking a moment to clear my mind is really helpful.
Do you have something that you do in the car line every day? I’d love to know how you make your time more productive!
