It’s time for the school’s annual Halloween Cake Decorating contest and that has me looking back on the cake I made last year and thinking of a new design for this year. Last year I won the contest! I have no idea what I’m going to make this year but here’s how I made my Spooky Spider Cake:
I started with a basic layer cake. Either 8 or 9 inch rounds are fine. And covered them with Orange Butter cream Frosting.
I used half of the Wilton Ball Shaped pan to make the spiders body, and a cupcake with the bottom cut off at an angle for the head.
Using a piping bag and a star shaped tip I piped the frosting onto the spider, finishing with two red hots for the eyes and 8 black pipe cleaners as the legs. I added black decorative frosting the edges of the base cake and used white gel icing on top to look like a web.
Now, who has ideas for this year’s cake?!
