Today I am a Military Wife and Mother of three, but a lifetime ago I was a Student at Arizona State University and NFL Cheerleader. In 2002, I joined the Arizona Cardinals on the sidelines and was instantly in awe of the story of Pat Tillman. I never personally met him, but when I joined the team I quickly learned of the legendary ASU football player who was Drafted by the Arizona Cardinals and played for several seasons until he gave it all up, to serve his country. That, is a honerable man. Pat Tillman immediately became a legend both on and off the field, leaving a multi-million dollar contract to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan as an Army Ranger.
On April 22, 2004 he made the ultimate sacrifice when he was killed in the hills of Afghanistan. That season on the field was different. It was cloaked in the memory of this amazing man. I will never forget the game they retired his Jersey. I stood on the sidelines in Sun Devil stadium as we watched his wife and brother standing at center field. Chills. The entire stadium honoring a selfless man who gave everything for our Country.
Now, you too can honor the memory of Pat Tillman by supporting the Pat Tillman Foundation.
The Pat Tillman Foundation was created by his family and friends to honor his legacy though support of military veterans and their spouses with educational scholarships.
Each year they host Pat’s Run, in Tempe, AZ as their signature fundraising event. It is a 4.2 mile run to honor his memory and raise money for this wonderful foundation. With the addition of the Shadow Run, hosted in cities around the country, you can now support and honor the Pat Tillman Foundation even if you do not live in Tempe. Find out HERE if there is a shadow run in your area.
This year I am inviting you to RUN, WALK and HONOR Pat Tillman’s legacy at our 5th Annual Shadow Run along the boardwalk in Pacific Beach. Proceeds support the Tillman Military Scholars program.
