Yesterday, my son lost his tooth. And last night, the tooth fairy forgot to come. oops!
He wasn’t upset, though. To be honest, he’s kind of used to it. It’s about a 50/50 chance that our tooth fairy will actually come on the night that you’ve lost your tooth. Since our tooth fairy is so forgetful I’ve gotten really good at explaining away her lack of promptness.
Just in case you have a forgetful tooth fairy in your house, and your child wakes up wondering why the tooth fairy didn’t come, here are reasons why.
10 Reasons the Tooth Fairy didn’t come last night
#1 You lost your tooth too late. The kids have heard this one a lot. If you lose your tooth any time after lunch then it is likely that the tooth fairy is already out making her rounds and you’ll have to wait until tomorrow night.
#2 Your room was just too messy. This one is great – you get your excuse and the kids will clean their room since they’d hate to miss out on that shiny coin or crisp dollar bill.
#3 Her list was too long. Sometimes there are so many kids that lose their teeth in a given day that she just cannot make it to every house in one night. I mean, c’mon, she’s no Santa Claus with elves and reindeer to help her out!
#4 She got lost. This one is great if you’ve recently moved. The tooth fairy simple made a wrong turn and couldn’t find the new house.
#5 You got out of bed too many times. This one works great on my son – he is famous for getting up for that last drink of water or to use the bathroom just one more time.
#6 You stayed up too late. Of course she’s not going to come by if you’re still awake! You have to be asleep or she will pass right by.
#7 You woke up too early. The opposite of #6, works just as well. If you have an early riser simply tell them that the tooth fairy didn’t make it by before they woke up.
#8 She ran out of money. Again, like #3, sometimes her list is really really long. This time she just ran out of money and had to go home for more. She’ll be back tonight.
#9 Mom or Dad were up too late. If all else fails blame it on the parents. We were up late last night watching TV, she must have heard us and couldn’t come by.
#10 Bad weather. If its raining or snowing she can’t fly. Her little wings just aren’t strong enough, she will have to wait until the weather clears.
Ok, fess up, who’s had a tooth fairy that forgot to come? Please, please tell me it’s not just me! Do you have any other great excuses to add to the list?
