Teach your kids healthy flossing habits with these tips
It is never too early to start teaching healthy flossing habits, in fact the early you start, the better.
Healthy flossing habits are so very important to your over-all oral health. When you floss correctly, you can get into those hard to reach places that your simple brushing cannot, keeping your teeth extra clean and your gums healthy.
Children often have difficulties with flossing and need some help with the correct ways to reach in between each tooth and also a little motivation to do it daily. Small children have an especially hard time getting their flossing done, their undeveloped fine motor skills make it difficult to get the floss placed correctly and get in between each tooth.
Ways to encourage healthy flossing habits with kids
Giving children the tools they need to be successful and turning an every day “chore” into a fun game or challenge will make it much easier for them to participate.
Use DenTek® Flossing Picks
As an adult I have difficulty getting my floss wound around my fingers correctly and reaching to get in between each tooth – I can only imagine how difficult that is for children.
Instead of traditional string floss we use DenTek®floss picks to get the job done!
I love that the DenTek® items are available at my local Walmart – no special trips to the Dentist to get what we need!
With the every day low price that Walmart offers, they are affordable to keep on hand for even our family of six.
I especially love that they make them for both adults and kids and can be found within Walmart’s Kids and Adult Oral Care sections. The kids are smaller that the adults making them easy to fit into the tiny mouths plus they are fun colors and flavored!
Make flossing a game
Any time you can turn an every day activity into a fun game – the kids will jump on board!
Use a calendar tool and cross of the days that you floss with your favorite marker or make it even more fun and use stickers!
Start Young
The sooner you start teaching your kids healthy flossing habits, the better. The key is to work it into your routine each and every day so that they create a habit that will last a lifetime.
Make flossing a family challenge
With the whole family on board the kids are more likely to participate. Take a 30 day flossing challenge with the family to show the kids how fun flossing can be. When they see mom and dad participating in the challenge they will excited to do it too!
DenTek® is putting on a 30 day flossing challenge for the whole family with the opportunity to win prizes at the end!! Be sure to Join the 30 Day DenTek® Family Floss Challenge
No purchase necessary to participate or win. Visit dentekchallenge.com for official rules and more info
My family has taken the challenge and as someone who is often reluctant to floss I am so pleased with how my teeth look and feel at the end of the 30 days!
