As Christmas nears and my shopping list gets checked off, there is always one member of the family that I struggle with buy for – the family dog!
Everyone in our house gets a Christmas stocking, even our Jack Russell Terrier, Ryder. On Christmas morning you will find his stocking stuffed and laying next to all of the kids’.
I try to gift him with fun toys and treats and I also fill it with necessities. One year, he even got a new fluffy dog bed from Santa!
When it comes to buying gifts for your dog, there are some fun new ideas and old favorites that I have just got to share with you! There’s also a few gifts that you might want to avoid gifting your dog, as well.
Best Gifts for Dogs
I like to start with our pups favorite treats – who doesn’t love a good dog treat?! There are lots to choose from so I usually get a variety to spread out to share with him throughout the year – our 10 yr old uses them daily as she teaches him new tricks!
Our pup really enjoys a good treat. Some of our favorites are Kaleb’s Organics Dog Treats or Grandma Lucy’s Oven Bakes Peach Dog Treats.
If you or your children like to bake and make things yourself then of course you could gift your pup with an organic treat cookbook! Nothing beats a homemade treat, for sure.
Apparel and fluffies area favorite for our dog. He has been obsessed with soft blankets since I brought him home. Your dog might enjoy his own soft blankie to cuddle with, too. Another option is a large waterproof dog blanket – super soft on one side and water proof on the other!
There are some great options for dog bets out there too. A new crate mat or sherpa dog bed is a great gift idea!
Dog toys as gifts really depends on the size and breed of dog. Our own dog prefers soft and squeaky toys but many other dogs like a good rope or ball to play with.
Finally, I like to purchase our dog or gift to our friends that are dog mamas, are pet care items. Our pup has sensitive skin and ever since he’s been a puppy he’s struggled with bites from bugs outside. Silver Honey Hot Spot and Wound Care is one that we always keep on hand. It is comes in both an Antimicrobial spray gel and also an ointment. use it on dry itchy winter skin, irritations, nicks, cuts, burns, hot spots, etc. It truly is the perfect gift for Dr. Mom and great to add to your pet’s first aid kit.
