This idea was sent to me by a reader and it sounded so cute we had to try it right away. I’m so glad we did; the kids had a great time making their ‘nests’ and they are the perfect dessert for Easter. Now I’m sharing with your all how to make these adorable cookie nests.
To start, you will need to make your favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. We used this Betty Crocker recipe for Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. Pre-heat the oven to 350.
I really put the kids in charge of this one and since Wundergirl’s reading is phenomenal she got to read her first recipe!
Wunderboy, my little chef, did a great job mixing up all of the ingredients.
Once your dough is ready grab your muffin tin. Place a scoop of Cookie dough into each space and smoosh it down with your hands to form the shape of a nest.
Place muffin tin in the oven and bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
While cookies are in the oven place half of a bag of coconut into a large ziplock bag. Add several drops of green food coloring and shake. This was the perfect job for Wunderbaby to ‘help’ with.
Remove cookies from oven. (Here I patted down the center of the cookie with a spoon, it had puffed up a little. Center will still look a bit ‘wet’ but it will be fine once it cools). When Cookies have cooled completely slide them out of the tin with a knife.
Let the kids go to town constructing their “nests” out of cookie shells, green coconut flakes, and mini Cadbury eggs 🙂
