Picturesque La Jolla, California is a first stop for many tourists when traveling to Southern California or visiting San Diego. With beautiful beaches, parks, trails and golf courses along with a quaint downtown, I can see the appeal. But for us locals, it’s an awesome day trip destination, also.
We recently spent the morning in La Jolla while my sister was in town checking out wedding spots (photos for her GORGEOUS beach wedding will be up soon!). While there we decided to let the kids explore the tide pools and admire the Seals swimming and relaxing in their own private cove.
There are many locations for Tide Pools here in San Diego but one of the easiest to get to are right off of Coast Blvd. and since they are located right next to the children’s pool where the seals hang out, it’s a two for one location. You walk out along the sea wall for panoramic views or head down the stairs to the beach. At low tide, the water will recede enough for walking out onto the rocks and viewing the inhabitants of the small pools left behind.
There are hundreds of seals that have taken over La Jolla Children’s pool and it has been their permanent residence for several years now. You can see mom and pups, as well as hundreds of others relaxing on the rocks or taking a quick swim.
You can reach the La Jolla Children’s Pool at 850 Coast Blvd., La Jolla, Ca 92037. If you are interested in Tide Pools make sure you check the tide schedule before going. The best times for Tide Pools is when the Tide is negative, although you can still explore when it is about a foot or so high, as shown in the pictures here.
