I have so much fun dressing up for Halloween, but this year (like most) I found myself working on the kids’ costumes and waiting for the last minute to throw mine together. Thank goodness for Ross Dress for Less, I was able to run in and put together this awesome last minute costume!
If you have been following us for a while, then you probably know I’m a sucker for YA fiction, and with Divergent having recently been made into a movie, I thought Tris would be a great costume! And why not portray a strong female character?
A few items were key to making this look work. First, the boots. I knew if I were going to dress as the Divergent Tris, I was definitely going to need some awesome Dauntless boots. Lucky for me, as soon as I walked into Ross Dress for Less I found these Brand Name boots, the last pair, in my size! They had tons of black fashionable, military style boots and these were perfect.
The second key item is Tris’ Tattoo. Without the tattoo, the costume is a total bust. I easily added the tattoo to my collar bone, with a quick stencil and a permanent marker.
To create this Divergent Tris tattoo you will need:
- white copy paper
- scissors
- permanent black marker.
To make yourself a template you will first enter “tris tattoo” in your search bar. Once you have found an image you like simply print it out.
Once you have it printed, take your scissors and cut out the center of the ravens. I prefer small scissors for a project like this, it will give you more control.
Place your stencil where you would like the tattoo and color it in with your black marker.
To finish out my costume I found a great pair of black leggings with zipper pockets and some piping, added a plain black tank, and a black crop leather jacket. All of which were found at Ross Dress for Less and are very similar to what is worn by Tris in the Divergent movie.
Shopping at Ross Dress for Less I was able to find a killer costume at a fraction of the price. Each of the pieces I bought can also be worn separately and make great additions to my winter wardrobe. Seriously, I cannot wait to wear those boots again!!
If you are really pressed for time with the kids costumes I also found some great pre-packaged costumes in the children’s section. These costumes were listed at 20-60% off regular price!
So what do you think of my last minute costume idea? What will you be wearing this Halloween?
