So I am calling this cleaning solution “magic” because after trying out every other store bought bathroom cleaner and nothing working, my shower is now CLEAN! There was so much soap scum buildup I thought it would never sparkle again and now it does. And guess what? This wasn’t a crazy chemical cleaner you have to wear a hazmat suit for, it was a DIY cleaning recipe. Yep, my shower (and just about everything else in my house) is now clean after using this “Magic” Cleaning Solution you can make at home.
So I’m a little embarrassed to be posting my before picture, but like I said, I had tried all sorts of cleaners and scrubbed like a dickens to no avail! After seeing these pictures though I’m sure you want to know my secret, right?
The discovery of this “Magic” cleaning solution came a few weeks ago when I decided I was going to make my own dishwasher detergent. After doing some research, I found that really all that is needed is a few inexpensive ingredients but there wasn’t an exact science to mixing them. I settled on a mixture and started using it in the dishwasher. While I was washing dishes one day I noticed my stainless steel sink getting a little dingy and there were a couple of rust stains where I can left a metal baking sheet. I normally use ‘barkeepers friend’ to clean it but I was out. Since my homemade dishwasher detergent was safe for dishes I figured I’d sprinkle some into the sink. WHOA! It bubbled up, I scrubbed it out and was so pleased to see the rust stain gone, and the sink was all shiny.

Wanting to see my cleaning solutions magical powers in all their glory I decided to try it out on my shower. The one I thought was gone beyond repair. WOW, it cleaned that too! Now, the shower did need a little elbow grease mixed in with the “magic” cleaning solution but it now sparkles and shines from top to bottom. The shower looks brand new! No more disgusting built up soap scum coating.
Ok, ok, enough with my cleaning stories (I get really excited when things are all clean and sparkly!) you all probably really want to know what I am using. Here you go, the recipe to my “Magic” cleaning solution you can make at home…
Combine these ingredients into a container and keep it on hand for all your hard surface cleaning needs. I would NOT recommend using this on any flooring or furniture as I do not know how it might react. It is fantastic for the dishwasher, just add about a tablespoon where you would normally put your detergent. It cleans sinks, tubs, and shower beautifully– sprinkle some onto the surface and wipe with a wet sponge.
