Every good party has yummy treats and New Years Eve is no exception!  These New Years Eve Countdown Cookies are just what your party needs to celebrate the new year-Delicious Clock shaped cookies.

New Years Eve Countdown

To start, I used this sugar cookie recipe. You, of course, can use your favorite recipe or purchase pre-made cookie dough.  Even if you don’t make these clock cookies you should really try this recipe sometime.  It’s awesome!

New Years Eve Countdown Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 cups shortening
  • 3/4 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 4 1/3 cups flour
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.  In a medium bowl, mix together the sugars and the shortening using an electric mixer.

Slowly add vanilla and beaten egg while mixing.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.  Gradually add the flour mixture to the mixing bowl, mixing on slow speed until just blended.  Do not overmix.

Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface and cut with round cutters or a glass.

Bake at 375 degrees for about 8 minutes.  Ideally you don’t want the edges to brown.

To Decorate:

When Cookies have cooled, frost with icing.  (Make a simple icing using approximately 2 tbs. melted butter, 3 cups of powdered sugar, 2 -3 tbs. milk, and 1 tsp. vanilla)

Use small candies or confetti sprinkles for the center dot of the clock and gel writers for the numbers.
